> BusinessBriefs ‘Fat Duck’ Waltzes into Whistler

News

Chef Alexander Stoll has started “The Fat Duck Cuisine” to delight Whistler food lovers and their guests with memorable multi-course meals prepared in their own kitchens.

Chef Alexander’s cuisine is the fine dining solution for special Whistler occasions. For celebratory meals of all kinds, cocktail parties or even a romantic evening for two, Chef Alexander travels to your home to cook a gourmet meal, leaving you free to enjoy your guests.

“When I’m not in the kitchen cooking or experimenting, I’m probably off somewhere researching or reading about cooking and food,” he says.

When he was boy, his grandfather operated a micro farm and garden/nursery in the Alsace region of France, and he is the man who made Stoll taste dishes like pumpkin pie and nasturtium salad, stoking Alexander’s passion for what is now called slow food.

“I opened The Fat Duck Cuisine because I had something to say,” Stoll says. “For me the food is conversation. It is the expression of my heart and passion I believe in, as well as a tasteful way to escape. The Fat Duck Cuisine is about the simplicity of Mother Nature’s seasonal creation and bounties.”

Alexander uses high-quality, farm-based products as much as possible. Born and raised in Alsace, Alexander started his career in the culinary industry and attended the famous Ecole Hôtelière de Strasbourg. After completing his education he travelled to Switzerland and Germany to work and discover different cultures.

He immigrated to Canada in 1996 and moved to Whistler in 1998. In Whistler, Alexander has worked his magic in the kitchens at Val d’Isère Restaurant, the Aubergine Grille and Whistler Cooks. Alexander has cooked for French aristocrats and VIP customers from around the world, such as Kevin Costner and Sean Penn. He has also catered to those in high-end Whistler residences such as Kadenwood, the Four Seasons and Stonebridge. Stoll is a proud member of Whistler’s Slow Food Convivium, a member of British Columbia Chefs Association, the Canadian Culinary Federation, the World Association of Cooks Societies and the British Columbia Restaurant and Food Association.
